Did you sign up for a flexible spending account (FSA) with your employer this year? It is a common benefit and one that can be quite useful. You choose an amount, usually anything up to $5,000, and it is taken from the top of your annual salary and placed on a debit card for you (some employers do still use the reimbursement method, but debit cards are most commonly used). This is pre-tax money that you pay back through payroll deductions throughout the year. It can be used for a wide variety of medical expenses that are not normally covered by health insurance. Your employer will provide you with a list of what you can and cannot purchase with your FSA.
Typically, things like co-pays, over-the-counter drugs, health supplies, dental, vision, and even acupuncture and chiropractic can be paid for with an FSA, depending on the employer. The one thing that is the most important to remember about your FSA, however, is that you must use all of the money you put into it before the end of the year; it does not roll over (or only does so briefly and under very particular circumstances). It’s your money. It came out of your salary. Don’t let it go to waste. Spend it today, on something really important, like your eye health.
You Can Use Your FSA at the Eye Doctor
Going to the eye doctor is a covered expense on most FSA’s. You can pay for the entire visit with your FSA funds, or the co-pay if your insurance has vision benefits. You can also use your FSA to purchase eyeglasses and frames, prescription sunglasses, contact lenses, contact lens solution, and even to get LASIK.
We are your Carmel, Indiana optometrist, and we can take care of all of your eye health needs. In fact, we can do it for your entire family using your FSA funds. If you want LASIK, we can give you a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate, send you to one of our LASIK partners to get it and provide all of your follow-up care, all paid for with FSA money.
